A cortijo is a kind of farm whose building was functional to the needs of the owners and workers, the livestock and the storage of agricultural tools and products. If a cortijo was also used for wine production, it was called a cortijo lagar.

In this region of Andalucía, which was divided into plots after the Moorish-Christian war, about 150 cortijos lagares were built. Of these properties, this is one of the few that have been preserved and restored respecting their original authenticity. For this reason, we can call this rural enclave a historic place.

Its thick, solid walls, certain authentic doors and the layout of the rooms will transport you back in time. Can you imagine celebrating a wedding or a yoga class on an original threshing floor? Or taking a moment to relax in the main courtyard, imagining donkeys and horses in the still preserved hitching rings. The same courtyard that preserves the authentic stone floor and the door of the pressing room with (Roman) scales used to weigh the harvest. These are just some of the examples that speak of the effort and dedication of the current owners to preserve the authenticity of the property. For 7 years they dedicated themselves to adapting it to modern standards of comfort, without neglecting the original details.

Their effort has been recognised. This cortijo lagar was chosen as a place for the promotion of Malaga as a city/product under the brand Sabor a Malaga. It was also selected to present Andalusian tourism, with the presence of the president and the renowned actor Antonio Banderas.

Can you imagine driving through the Montes de Málaga and arriving along a path of ancient eucalyptus trees? We can assure you that once you leave your car in the cortijo’s car park, you will not want to leave except for the essentials. Once there, the only thing left to do is to surrender to peace, serenity and privacy as a lifestyle.

To give you an idea, this typical Andalusian cortijo has about 1.000m² of living space. The construction is divided into 4 houses and has a total of 11 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. At present 2 houses are used as Bed & Breakfast. Each house has a living-dining room, fireplace, kitchen and private terrace. The plot is 4.3 hectares in size and there is an adjoining plot of 1.2 hectares, making a total of 5.5 hectares.

The large stable yard, which has been converted into a relaxation area, invites you to relax. The fruit trees encourage you to contemplate and enjoy the cycle of life: how can you fail to be moved by the sight of those seeds sown years ago turning into olives, lemons, oranges, figs, pomegranates, grapes, pears, raspberries, almonds, plums, kakis, cherries and avocados?

In addition, the property has a water fountain, a small pool and an infinity pool. The latter has an outdoor kitchen, a covered terrace and a toilet. The infinity pool pump uses solar panels. The storage room and workshop are other useful outbuildings.

The cortijo has a natural water deposit with 2 tanks of 20.000L and a well. These are pumped to the central 40,000L tank under the threshing floor. There is also an irrigation deposit of 340.000L (rain water) which is used for irrigation and the swimming pool.
